Two Arrested in Savannah After August Wheaton Street Shooting

On August 22, 2025, a shooting occurred in the 700 block of Wheaton Street in Savannah, leaving two adults with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers responded to the scene around 8:45 p.m. after receiving ShotSpotter alerts. Witnesses reported that an unknown group had fired into a vehicle traveling west on Wheaton Street. The victims were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center and later discharged.
After a thorough investigation, the Savannah Police Department, in coordination with the U.S. Marshals, arrested 18-year-old Zyheem Russell and a male juvenile on October 2, 2025. Both suspects face three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
