Columbus Police Make Arrests in July Shooting That Killed Teen and Unborn Child

The Columbus Police Department has announced that three suspects are in custody in connection with the July 27, 2025, shooting that claimed the life of 17-year-old Keiauna McFadden and her unborn child.

On Thursday, October 2, warrants were issued for Javon James Seals, 21, Deandre Scranton, 18, and Landon Blake Owens, 21. Seals and Scranton were arrested in Columbus, while Owens was taken into custody in Troup County and extradited to the Muscogee County Jail. All three face multiple charges, including Murder, Aggravated Assault x4, Feticide, Drive-by Shooting, and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime. In addition, Scranton faces Theft by Taking (Motor Vehicle).

The original incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 27, when Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting during a gathering in the 2600 block of Juniper Avenue at approximately 1:10 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found two female victims with gunshot wounds—one at the scene and another inside a vehicle on nearby Japonica Drive. Both victims were transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional for treatment.

Keiauna McFadden, who was pregnant at the time, was later airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in critical condition. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday, August 1, at 4:08 p.m. The second victim was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital.
