Savannah Officer Involved in Shooting While Responding to Aggravated Assault

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault and officer-involved shooting that occurred in the area of Ann Street and Zubly Street in the early hours of September 27.

Officers on foot in the area reported hearing gunshots at approximately 1:20 a.m. They observed a suspect firing a gun at an unarmed adult male, who was running from the scene. In response, one officer discharged their firearm, firing approximately three shots. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim reported no injuries. As per department protocol, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“In incidents where officers discharge their firearm and do not result in serious injury, the Savannah Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit conducts an investigation into the case,” said Assistant Chief Robert Gavin.
