Douglas Man Shot, Injured After Confrontation With Officers in Coffee County

COFFEE COUNTY, GA – At the request of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing an officer-involved shooting that left a Douglas man hospitalized.

According to preliminary findings, the incident began around 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, when Douglas Police responded to a Circle K on East Baker Highway for a domestic violence report. Officers learned that 44-year-old Tommy Randy Musgrove II had allegedly held his girlfriend at knifepoint before fleeing.

Douglas officers and Coffee County deputies tracked Musgrove to the Bear Creek Road area, where they discovered his home on fire and Musgrove standing in the roadway holding what appeared to be a gun. After briefly putting the weapon to his head, Musgrove ran into the neighborhood and tried to force his way into another home. Officers and deputies fired their weapons, striking him multiple times.

Law enforcement immediately rendered aid until EMS arrived. Musgrove was taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center, then transferred to another hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Investigators later determined the weapon was a replica BB/airgun.

The Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire at Musgrove’s residence. The Douglas Police Department continues to investigate the Circle K incident and has secured an arrest warrant for aggravated assault. No officers were injured.
