Shooting at Augusta Mall Leaves One Injured; Two Suspects in Custody

AUGUSTA, GA — A shooting at Augusta Mall on Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2025, left one man injured and sent shoppers rushing for safety before deputies quickly secured the scene.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 1:15 p.m. Within 90 seconds, deputies and Richmond County Marshal’s Office units were on site. One male victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound, and a Marshal’s deputy immediately began CPR while entrances and exits were secured.

Mall security, working from pre-established plans, provided officers with real-time video, photos, and suspect descriptions. One suspect was apprehended on mall property, and a second was arrested while attempting to flee toward a nearby gas station.

The incident, captured on video, reportedly began as a fistfight before escalating when one individual pulled a firearm.

Along with RCSO and Marshals, the response included the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the GBI, FBI, ATF, Richmond County Board of Education Police, Augusta Fire Department, Central EMS, and mall security. SWAT teams cleared the property while deputies systematically escorted shoppers and employees to safety.

The gunshot victim was transported to the hospital, along with two other individuals who suffered unrelated minor medical issues.

Sheriff Eugene Brantley praised the coordinated response, saying: “Today’s incident is yet another reminder of how quickly senseless violence can turn deadly. While we cannot prevent every bad act, we will always respond with speed, professionalism, and determination to keep our community safe.”
