AUGUSTA, Ga.—An arrest warrant for murder has been issued for a man already serving a life sentence in North Carolina, linking him to a 2005 cold case homicide in Richmond County.

On Wednesday, September 17, Sgt. Randall Amos of the Criminal Investigations Division obtained the warrant for Juan Renardo Chunn, 56, for the murder of Catrina Beatrice Evans.

The case dates back to August 20, 2005, when deputies found Ms. Evans deceased from multiple stab wounds inside her apartment at 2445 Amsterdam Drive. Her one-year-old child was also found alive in the home.

In July of this year, a palm print from the crime scene was resubmitted to the GBI Department of Forensic Science Crime Lab for re-examination. The lab determined that the print belonged to Juan Renaldo Tillman, also known as Juan Renardo Chunn.

Investigators discovered that Chunn is currently an inmate at the Columbus Correctional Institution in Whiteville, North Carolina, where he is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will now proceed with the murder charge.

“Our office remains committed not only to working current cases but also to reviewing past and cold cases,” said Sheriff Eugene Brantley. “Every victim deserves justice, and every family deserves closure.”

The Evans family has been notified of the developments in the case.
