GBI Investigating Self-Inflicted Shooting in Adel Following Car Accident Report

At the request of the Adel Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an inquiry into a shooting that occurred late Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Cook County.
A 911 caller reported a single-car accident near the intersection of S. Elm Street and W. Fifth Street at about 10:31 p.m. When an Adel Police officer arrived, the car was empty. The officer noticed a man walking nearby and approached, believing he might have been the driver.
Before the officer exited the patrol car, the man pulled out a gun and shot himself. The incident was captured on the officer’s in-car camera.
The man was taken to a local hospital, then life-flighted to a Florida hospital, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
The case will be turned over to the Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
