Man Arrested for Bomb Threat Hours After Release from Muscogee County Jail

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office received a bomb threat from an unknown male caller. Multiple agencies—including the Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Bureau, Special Operations Bureau, Park Patrol, HEAT Unit, Columbus Police Department, Phenix City Police Department, and ATF Task Force Operators/K9s—responded immediately to investigate.

Within a short time, deputies identified and apprehended the suspect, Christian Cruz-Benitez, who had been released from the Muscogee County Jail earlier the same day. Authorities confirmed that Cruz-Benitez had previously been incarcerated for another bomb threat.

He has now been charged with one felony count of Terroristic Threats and Acts and transported back to the Muscogee County Jail without incident.
