Stone Mountain Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Fatal Shooting of Friend

Decatur, GA – DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced a jury conviction in the case of a Stone Mountain man who fatally shot his friend during an argument.

On Wednesday, September 3, jurors found 33-year-old Lafeme Pruitt guilty of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in the shooting death of 34-year-old Dominique Grant.

The incident occurred on April 24, 2024, outside a home in the 1400 block of Diamond Key in Stone Mountain. DeKalb County Police officers responding to the scene found Grant lying in the yard with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that Pruitt, his brother, and Grant had been inside the home together before the confrontation. When Pruitt and his brother prepared to leave to purchase a truck, Grant insisted on joining them, leading to an argument. The dispute escalated after the men got into a vehicle, then stepped out.

During the altercation, a gun fell to the ground. Pruitt retrieved the weapon, cocked it, and pointed it at Grant, who backed away with his hands raised. Surveillance footage captured Pruitt following Grant into a yard, aiming the gun, and firing 10 shots.

On Thursday, September 4, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Adams sentenced Pruitt to life without parole plus an additional five years.

The case was handled by the Homicide and Gangs Unit and prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Atakora, with support from Senior ADA Farrah Shawarby, DA Investigator Tia Johnson, and Victim Advocate Christy Palmer. Detective Kearney of the DeKalb County Police Department led the initial investigation.
