GBI: Suspect Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting in Houston County

At the request of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Centerville, GA, early Wednesday morning.
The incident began around 2:30 a.m. on September 3, 2025, when a deputy spotted a stolen car that had been involved in a previous vehicle pursuit. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, two occupants fled the vehicle on foot toward Houston Lake Road and Thomson Street.
During the search, deputies encountered a man believed to be one of the suspects. According to preliminary information, the man fired at a deputy, prompting multiple deputies to return fire. The man was struck and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Later, the GBI confirmed that the man had died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
The investigation remains active. Once complete, the case will be turned over to the Houston County Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review.
