Elderly Woman Dies After House Fire in Snellville

SNELLVILLE, GA – An elderly woman died Sunday evening following a house fire in the 2200 block of Eastwood Drive.

Gwinnett County firefighters were dispatched at 5:45 p.m. on August 31, 2025, after multiple 911 callers reported flames visible from the garage and smoke coming from the crawlspace of a single-story home. Callers also indicated that one person was trapped inside.

When fire crews arrived, they encountered downed power lines in the driveway and heavy fire involvement in the garage spreading into the first floor. Firefighters initiated an offensive attack with two hose lines while simultaneously searching the home.

During the search, crews located an elderly female victim inside the residence. She was removed and transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 6:13 p.m. and remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish hot spots, monitor air quality, and provide rehab support for personnel.

One occupant was not home at the time of the fire. He later confirmed to authorities that neighbors had alerted him about the blaze. The displaced resident declined assistance from the American Red Cross.

A fire investigator determined the fire originated in the garage, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

Responding equipment included three engines, one truck, one rescue unit, one squad, two ambulances, a district chief, two battalion chiefs, an air and light unit, a fire investigator, and a PIO.
