Man Shot By Officers After Refusing to Drop Shotgun in McDonough

At the request of the Henry County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into an officer-involved shooting that left a McDonough man injured on Sunday morning.

The incident happened on August 31, 2025, around 8:45 a.m. when Henry County Police responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence on Brannan Road.

According to preliminary information, officers arrived and encountered 38-year-old Greg Hamilton outside the home holding a shotgun. Police say Hamilton refused multiple commands to drop the weapon. One officer then fired, striking Hamilton.

Hamilton was transported to a local hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. No officers were injured during the encounter.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Upon completion, the GBI will submit its findings to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for review.
