ATLANTA—A Mexican national is in federal custody after agents allegedly found 5.5 kilograms of fentanyl and two firearms, including an AR-15 rifle, hidden in his Stone Mountain home.

Alexis Carreon Bocanegra, 25, who has no legal status in the U.S., was arrested on August 25 by DEA agents. According to U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg, surveillance between February and March 2025 allegedly showed Bocanegra handling approximately $400,000 in illegal drug proceeds and distributing a package containing a kilogram of fentanyl.

On the day of his arrest, agents searched his home and found two firearms under a bed and the large quantity of fentanyl hidden inside a Huggies diaper box in a nearby shed.

Bocanegra was charged in a criminal complaint on August 27 with possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm by an illegal alien. He was ordered to be held without bail by a federal magistrate judge on August 28.

“His fentanyl will never hit the streets, and his guns will no longer threaten the safety of our community,” said U.S. Attorney Hertzberg.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, and the Atlanta, DeKalb County, and Sandy Springs Police Departments.
