Georgia Man Sentenced to 12.5 Years for Trafficking Fentanyl and Other Drugs

ATLANTA—A convicted cocaine trafficker, Omari A. Nicks, has been sentenced to 12 and a half years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl while illegally possessing a loaded AR-style rifle.
According to U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg, Nicks, 47, was selling drugs from his Atlanta apartment to customers from as far away as Bartow County. On February 6, 2025, DEA agents executed a search warrant on his apartment. Nicks attempted to flee by climbing out a third-story window, but he fell and was arrested by agents.
Inside the apartment, agents found approximately two kilograms of methamphetamine, one kilogram of cocaine, and 50 grams of fentanyl. They also seized a hydraulic press, more than $5,400 in cash, and a loaded AR-15 style rifle with a 30-round magazine. A co-conspirator was seen dumping approximately 100 grams of heroin out the window as agents entered.
Nicks pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess controlled substances with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On August 28, U.S. District Judge Eleanor L. Ross sentenced him to 12 years and six months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
“When criminals mix deadly drugs with guns, the danger is magnified,” said Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division. “This sentence makes clear they will be held accountable.”
