Man Pleads Guilty to Two Separate Sexual Assaults in DeKalb County

DECATUR, Ga.—A Decatur man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including rape and armed robbery, in connection with two separate home invasions and sexual assaults that occurred in 2019 and 2020.
On Monday, August 25, Nathan Mullins, 36, entered a guilty plea in DeKalb County Superior Court. The charges stem from two incidents in which Mullins allegedly assaulted women inside their homes in Lithonia and Stone Mountain.
In the June 2019 assault, a 29-year-old woman was awoken by a man with a gun in her home. The man, who was masked at first, forced her to perform oral sex and raped her. The case went cold after initial DNA evidence did not yield a match in a database.
The second assault occurred in December 2020, when a 34-year-old woman was also awakened by a man pointing a gun at her. He then sexually assaulted her and stole her debit card, phone, and watch. Surveillance video from an ATM where the debit card was used showed a man with an ankle monitor, which investigators used to identify Mullins. The GPS data from his ankle monitor also placed him at the scene of the crime.
During the investigation of the 2020 case, DNA from the 2019 victim’s sexual assault kit was entered into the CODIS database and matched Mullins, linking him to both crimes.
Immediately after the guilty pleas, Judge Brian Lake sentenced Mullins to nine concurrent life sentences. The case was prosecuted by the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit of the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.
