GBI Investigates Fatal Shooting of Hawkinsville Man

At the request of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of 40-year-old Kyle Thomas Bennett of Hawkinsville.

Deputies were dispatched to Malcom Nelson Road in Hawkinsville at about 12:32 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Bennett had been shot during a fight. He was transported to a hospital in Macon, where he died on August 12.

The shooter has claimed self-defense, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once complete, findings will be turned over to the Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
