GBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Lavonia; Armed Man Hospitalized

At the request of the Lavonia Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Lavonia, GA, on August 7, 2025. One man was shot and injured in the incident. No officers were injured.

Around 12:35 p.m., Lavonia police responded to a shooting on Beaver Dam Circle, where a male victim was reportedly shot by two unknown suspects. The victim was taken to a local hospital while law enforcement, assisted by the GBI, searched for the suspects.

During the search, officers entered a trailer in the 100 block of Midway Avenue to identify an individual inside. The man inside was armed with a handgun and pointed it at the officers. One officer fired several times, striking the man at least once.

The armed individual was taken to a hospital. Authorities confirmed he was not involved in the earlier Beaver Dam Circle shooting.

The case will be turned over to the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation is complete.
