Man Arrested After Trying to Enter Pickens Jr. High School

PICKENS COUNTY, GA – A man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a school deputy observed him attempting to pull on the doors of Pickens Jr. High School following student dismissal.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on August 5, Campus Law Enforcement Deputy Blake McClure saw Pedro Nicholas-Pedro trying to enter the school. When the deputy made contact, Nicholas-Pedro fled on foot but was apprehended after a short chase.

According to a post-arrest interview, Nicholas-Pedro stated he was trying to get inside the building to use a phone to call for a ride. He had been working construction in the area but was terminated from the job site earlier that day. He was not armed at the time of the incident.

Nicholas-Pedro has been charged with Loitering and Prowling and Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer. Federal Immigration Authorities have been notified of the arrest.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the incident as a reminder of the importance of school deputies in keeping campuses safe.
