TROUP COUNTY, GA — A Texas man was shot and killed on Interstate 85 near the 11-mile marker on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 30, 2025, in what authorities describe as a possible road rage incident.

Deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported vehicle accident at 4:02 p.m. and located a car in the median. The driver, identified as 64-year-old Richard Hawk of Texas, was found unresponsive and bleeding. He was removed from the vehicle and transported to an ambulance, where medics discovered a gunshot wound to his head.

Hawk was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, where he died shortly after arrival.

A witness to the incident reported observing aggressive driving behavior between two vehicles on the interstate and provided a tag number and vehicle description to the West Point Police Department. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle within city limits and detained a male subject.

The suspect, 23-year-old Nytorian Allen of LaGrange, was taken into custody by Troup County investigators. He has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Crimes.

Due to the incident’s proximity, West Point Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown. That lockdown was lifted shortly afterward.
