Troopers Use Box-In Maneuver to Save Woman in Medical Crisis on Georgia Highway

LEE COUNTY, GA — A quick-thinking team of Georgia State Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Officers helped save the life of a woman experiencing a medical emergency while driving on State Route 3 on the afternoon of Monday, July 21, 2025.

At approximately 1:05 p.m., a CVE Officer traveling southbound noticed a Honda SUV moving unusually slowly in the northbound inside lane, fluctuating between 3 and 20 mph. Suspecting a possible DUI or medical emergency, the officer activated his lights and notified Communications. As he drove alongside the SUV, he observed the female driver appearing disoriented and sinking into her seat.

Two State Troopers and a second CVE Officer arrived to assist. The group safely executed a box-in maneuver to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop. When the vehicle stopped, the driver was unresponsive and confused. After some effort, she lowered her window enough for a trooper to gain access to the vehicle, where mints and medication were visible.

EMS responded and determined the woman had taken medication to regulate her blood sugar before leaving to get food but could not recall anything after 10:30 a.m. Her blood sugar was stabilized, and she was medically cleared at the scene. A family friend arrived to take custody of the vehicle.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety credited the officers’ use of training and rapid coordination for preventing potential tragedy.
