Two Men Arrested Following Waters Avenue Shooting in Savannah

The Savannah Police Department is investigating a July 8 shooting outside a business in the 8500 block of Waters Avenue that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to one man and led to the arrests of two suspects.
Officers responded to the scene around 8:33 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Shortly after, officers were alerted to a gunshot victim who had arrived at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Jernard Bacon, had sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Investigators later determined that Bacon had been armed during the incident. Police recovered his weapon and, after he was treated at the hospital, arrested him on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On July 16, 38-year-old Jamal Elijah Kelly turned himself in to authorities. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence in connection to the shooting.
The case remains under investigation by the Savannah Police Department.
