Two Confirmed Dead, One Still Missing After Drowning at Amerson River Park

UPDATE: The final missing female has been located and removed from the river. Ten-year-old Skyler Worthen was pronounced deceased on scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley at 2:58 p.m., Wednesday. At 10:06 a.m., Wednesday, seven-year-old Summer McRae was pronounced deceased. At 10:15 a.m., Johnny Collins III was pronounced deceased.

MACON, GA – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic drowning incident that occurred Tuesday evening, July 15, 2025, at Amerson River Park.

At approximately 7:29 p.m., deputies, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol, and members of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to a report of three individuals in distress in the water.

Dive teams searched the area until 9:04 p.m. without locating the individuals. The search resumed Wednesday morning, when responders recovered the bodies of a 28-year-old male and a 7-year-old female. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley. The victims’ identities have not been released, pending notification of additional family.

The search continues for a 10-year-old female still missing in the water. Amerson River Park is currently closed as recovery efforts continue.

Officials will provide updates as more information becomes available.
