Inmate Dies After Apparent Suicide Attempt in Coffee County Jail

DOUGLAS, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of Diane Marie Jacob, 48, of Douglas, an inmate at the Coffee County Jail, who died on July 8, 2025, after an apparent suicide attempt in her cell.
At approximately 3:10 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2025, Jacob was discovered hanging in her cell by another inmate. Jail staff immediately began providing medical aid, which was then continued by responding EMS personnel. Jacob was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center, where she received ongoing medical care.
Preliminary information suggests that Jacob hung herself.
The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon, Georgia, will conduct an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation was initiated at the request of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
