Third Arrest Made in Oglethorpe Mall Shooting; Suspects Linked to Gang Activity

Savannah Police have arrested a third suspect in connection to the July 2 shooting at the Oglethorpe Mall. An adult male was taken into custody on the morning of July 5 and charged with possession of an illegal firearm.

During the ongoing investigation, detectives uncovered that this individual, along with other suspects already identified, have known gang affiliations. Authorities have not released names or further identifying information at this time to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

“There can be no tolerance for such meaningless violence in our community,” said Chief of Police Lenny B. Gunther. “The Savannah Police Department remains committed to ensuring justice is served.”

The two original suspects, both under the age of 18, remain hospitalized at Memorial Health University Medical Center for injuries sustained during the incident. Each was served with warrants for felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a handgun by a minor, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

All suspects will be transported to the detention center upon medical release.

The Savannah Police Department continues to collaborate with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office to ensure that all charges are appropriate and fully supported by the facts of the case.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD mobile app.
