Man Charged with Murder After Fatally Shooting Aunt in Butler

At the request of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating a homicide that occurred early Friday morning, July 4, 2025, in Butler, Georgia.

Zadarius Montgomery, 25, of Butler, was arrested and charged with murder in the death of his aunt, 60-year-old Angela Montgomery.

According to preliminary information, at approximately 1:20 a.m., the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Zadarius Montgomery stating that he had shot and killed his aunt at a residence in Butler. Deputies from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Reynolds and Butler police departments, responded to the scene and took Montgomery into custody.

Angela Montgomery was found deceased inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound. Her body has been sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

Zadarius Montgomery was booked into the Taylor County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
