21-Year-Old Drowns in West Point Lake; Second Incident in a Week

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Troup County 911 received a report of a swimmer who had gone underwater and did not resurface at West Point Lake near Horace King Park off Roanoke Road.

Emergency personnel, including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, were dispatched to the scene. Upon confirming that the swimmer had not been located, the Troup County Fire Department Dive Team was activated.

At approximately 10:14 p.m., the victim was recovered from the water. He was identified as 21-year-old Marquis Rice of Forsyth, Georgia.

Authorities believe the incident was a tragic swimming accident.

This marks the second drowning in West Point Lake in less than a week.
