Three Injured in Oglethorpe Mall Shooting; Savannah Police Investigation Ongoing

UPDATE: The Savannah Police Department (SPD) continues to actively investigate the July 2nd shooting at Oglethorpe Mall. On July 3rd, SPD announced its intention to charge two individuals with possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18. Both individuals remain hospitalized at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

SPD is working closely with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office to ensure that all charges brought forward are appropriate, fully supported by the facts of the case, and filed in accordance with legal procedures.

While this is still an active investigation, SPD and our partners are making significant progress.

The Savannah Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on July 2 at the Oglethorpe Mall, leaving two adult males and one male juvenile with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:41 p.m. following reports of gunfire inside the mall. Upon arrival, police discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot injuries. Chatham County EMS transported the victims to Memorial Health University Medical Center for treatment.

In addition to the gunshot victims, three other individuals were transported by EMS for non-gunshot-related medical issues. Savannah Police Department SWAT evacuated and cleared the mall before returning control of the premises to mall management.

“Savannah Police responded quickly to this event, and I am proud of our officers’ coordinated response,” said Savannah Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther. “To the citizens of Savannah, know that we will work tirelessly to keep our city safe and will be relentless in bringing everyone involved to justice.”
