Woman Dies in Officer-Involved Shooting in Pine Mountain

Daphine Mae Jennings, 58, of Pine Mountain, died Monday night, June 30, 2025, in an officer-involved shooting after allegedly pointing a firearm at Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputies. No deputies were injured in the incident.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been requested by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an independent investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that at about 9:10 p.m. on Monday, Jennings called 911, initially threatening suicide before claiming a neighbor was trying to break into her home. Troup County deputies responded and attempted to make contact with Jennings, who was inside the residence. Deputies verbally commanded Jennings to exit the home. When Jennings emerged, she allegedly pointed a firearm at the deputies, who then fired their weapons, striking her. Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jennings’ body will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. A firearm was recovered from the scene.
The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
