Woman Dies in Officer-Involved Shooting After Threatening Deputies in Troup County

A woman died on Monday, June 30, 2025, after being shot by Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputies following a standoff where she allegedly threatened self-harm and pointed a handgun at officers.

At approximately 9:09 PM, Troup County 911 received a call from an adult female at a home in the 200 block of Mountain Laurel Drive. She reportedly threatened to kill herself and harm anyone who entered her residence. Deputies and Troup County AMR were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies attempted to communicate with the woman through verbal commands and by having 911 operators call her phone. For over 30 minutes, the female would sporadically speak to dispatchers before hanging up, preventing deputies from making direct contact.

Shortly after 10:00 PM, the situation escalated when the woman opened her front door and allegedly pointed a handgun directly at the deputies. Faced with this threat, deputies discharged their firearms, striking the female. She fell inside the home, and deputies immediately called for AMR and fire personnel. Despite life-saving measures, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) responded to conduct an independent investigation. The involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
