Off-Duty Atlanta Officer Placed on Leave After Physical Dispute at Midtown Bar

An off-duty Atlanta police officer, Garrett Rolfe, 32, has been placed on paid administrative leave following a physical dispute at X Midtown located at 990 Piedmont Avenue NE on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

At approximately 1:28 AM, officers responded to reports of a physical dispute. The preliminary investigation indicated that a verbal altercation at the location escalated into a physical confrontation involving Officer Rolfe and Raefeael Penrice, 52.

Following the responding officer’s investigation, Penrice was taken into custody and charged with Simple Battery and Battery. He was then transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing.

Officer Rolfe, who has served with the Atlanta Police Department for almost seven years and was previously recognized for his DUI arrests, was placed on paid administrative leave on Sunday, June 29th. This action is pending an investigation by the Atlanta Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards. His recent training includes cultural awareness, use of force, and de-escalation. The Atlanta Police Department is also conducting an additional investigation into the incident itself.
