Macon Man Arrested After Attempted Armed Robbery at BP Gas Station

A Macon man has been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery at the BP Gas Station located at 7285 Hawkinsville Road.

The incident occurred around 2:04 p.m. on Monday, June 30th, and was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center. According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a male suspect entered the store and approached a clerk who was loading an ATM. The suspect forcibly took a cash box from the clerk and attempted to leave the business.

When confronted by the store manager, the suspect reportedly pulled a firearm. A struggle ensued, during which the suspect dropped the cash box and fled the scene on foot, heading north on Hawkinsville Road. No injuries were reported.

Deputies quickly responded and located the suspect, who attempted to flee from law enforcement. He was apprehended offroad near the railroad tracks in the 6800 block of Hawkinsville Road.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Mitchell Todd Baggarly of Macon. He was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and charged with Armed Robbery and Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers. He is currently being held without bond.
