Wanted Fugitive Caught After Six-Hour Manhunt in Macon Swamp

A six-hour manhunt ended Thursday when Bibb County Sheriff’s Office SIU Investigator Alex Fletcher apprehended a wanted fugitive at gunpoint in a wooded area off Lower Poplar Street.
The manhunt began when the armed felon, wanted on outstanding warrants in Macon-Bibb County, Jones County, and Twiggs County, crashed near the gate of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Training Range while fleeing from Twiggs County deputies. After the crash, the suspect fled on foot into a nearby swamp.
Multiple agencies joined the search, including Bibb County patrol deputies, the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF), the Gang Unit, the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia State Patrol.
The fugitive was eventually located and taken into custody without incident. His name has not yet been released.
