Former Charlton County Jailor Arrested for Forging Property Bond

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested Johnny Richard Watkins, 35, a former jailor in Charlton County, on charges of first-degree forgery.
The investigation began after the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance on June 17, 2025, following a forged property bond connected to a misdemeanor arrest. When the individual named on the forged bond failed to appear in court, authorities notified the person whose identity had been used fraudulently, triggering the investigation.
The GBI determined Watkins was responsible for creating the forged bond document. Watkins was booked into the Charlton County Jail and later released on bond.
The case will be forwarded to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
