Juvenile in Critical Condition After Serious Assault in Ocilla; One Arrest Made

A young juvenile child is in critical condition after a serious assault earlier this evening, Friday, June 20, 2025, prompting an investigation by the Ocilla Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
At approximately 5:37 PM, officers with the Ocilla Police Department were dispatched to the Irwin County Emergency Room in reference to the assault. Upon their arrival, a detective was contacted and responded to assist with the investigation. As a result of the initial findings, one individual was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery. In Georgia, aggravated battery is a felony offense that involves maliciously causing serious bodily harm, such as depriving someone of a body part, rendering a body part useless, or seriously disfiguring the body.
Due to the severity of the child’s injuries, the juvenile was life-flighted from the Irwin County Emergency Room to a trauma facility for specialized medical care.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been contacted and is currently en route to Ocilla to process the scene, indicating the serious nature and complexity of the case. In child abuse investigations in Georgia, law enforcement often works jointly with the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and can involve medical professionals and forensic interviews.
