Two Arrested After Smyrna Roadway Shootout Leaves 6-Year-Old Child Shot

Smyrna Police have arrested two suspects following a shooting that occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025, around 3:40 p.m. near Campbell Road and Spring Road, close to Jonquil Park.
According to authorities, witnesses reported gunfire exchanged between two vehicles. Officers responded swiftly and located one of the vehicles at the scene, while the second vehicle drove to a nearby hospital. A 6-year-old child inside that vehicle was treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The investigation remains active, but police have confirmed the arrests of 57-year-old Craig Radford Calhoun of Douglasville and 30-year-old Eric Allen Rushi Jr. of Atlanta. Both have been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm from an Auto, Cruelty to Child in the 1st Degree, Cruelty to Child in the 3rd Degree, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
Detectives are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting, including whether it was related to road rage or if the occupants of the vehicles were known to one another.
