Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Head-On Crash on I-285 in Atlanta

A wrong-way crash on I-285 Northbound near the Benjamin E. Mays Bridge left one man dead and another critically injured in the early morning hours of June 15, 2025.

Atlanta Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 3:36 a.m. and discovered a collision involving a Toyota Tacoma and a Nissan Sentra. The 40-year-old male driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The 24-year-old male driver of the Toyota was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Preliminary findings indicate the Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the expressway when it collided head-on with the Nissan. The Atlanta Police Accident Investigations Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
