Murray County Drug Bust Nets Meth, Marijuana, Psilocybin and Cash
On June 10, 2025, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division arrested Eric Hefner of Dalton, GA, and Jonathan Powell of Knoxville, TN, following an extended investigation into drug activity.
The investigation led to the seizure of approximately 35 grams of methamphetamine, 6 pounds of marijuana, 86 grams of psilocybin, one firearm, and $5,238 in cash. Both suspects face multiple felony charges.
Eric Hefner was charged with:
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Felony Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Psilocybin)
Jonathan Powell was charged with:
- Trafficking Methamphetamine
- Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Psilocybin)
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Felony Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Powell also had outstanding arrest warrants in Knox County, TN.
The Murray County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Dalton Police Department for their assistance in the operation. The investigation remains ongoing.
