BrightFarms Opens High-Tech Greenhouse in Macon, Promises Fresh Produce for Southeast

BrightFarms officially opened its newest greenhouse at 3037 Airport East Parkway in Macon on June 5, 2025. The cutting-edge facility, one of only three of its kind worldwide, currently spans eight acres and produces 22,000 pounds of fresh lettuce daily, with plans to expand to 32 acres.
The grand opening event drew local business leaders, government officials, representatives from Cox Enterprises, and members of the Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority. Mayor’s Office declared June 5 as BrightFarms Day in recognition of the company’s impact on sustainable agriculture and economic growth in the region.
Steve Bradley, President of Cox Farms, highlighted the facility’s role in creating jobs, boosting local economy, and increasing access to fresh, locally grown produce. The greenhouse uses advanced technology to grow salad greens quickly while reducing food miles and enhancing food security across the Southeast.
Guests toured the greenhouse and enjoyed dishes prepared by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson using produce grown on-site. A panel discussion moderated by Greg Lindsay of Fast Company Studio featured local leaders discussing the importance of fresh, local food in addressing food scarcity in Central Georgia.
Kelvin Hill, General Manager of the Macon facility, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and workforce development, aiming to serve the region with fresh produce available on shelves within 24 hours of harvest.
BrightFarms’ new Macon greenhouse marks a major investment in innovative agriculture, positioning Macon-Bibb County as a growing center for fresh food production and economic development in the Southeast.
