Murder Suspect Arrested in Stockbridge for April Fatal Shooting in Atlanta

A suspect wanted in connection with an April homicide in northwest Atlanta has been taken into custody.

On June 3, 2025, members of the Atlanta Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested 40-year-old Terrell Carithers in Stockbridge, Georgia. Carithers faces charges including Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The charges stem from an April 16, 2025, incident. At approximately 6:09 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person shot at 514 Sunset Avenue NW. Upon arrival, they found 51-year-old Craighton Thomas suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The Atlanta Police Homicide Unit led the investigation, which resulted in identifying Carithers as the suspect. He was located and taken into custody without incident.

Carithers is currently being held as the case proceeds through the judicial system.
