Cartersville Man Arrested After Six-Hour Standoff with Police at Apartment Complex

A Cartersville man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon following a six-hour standoff with law enforcement after he pointed a firearm at responding officers.
On May 29, 2025, at approximately 11:56 a.m., officers from the Cartersville Police Department were dispatched to the 175 Main Street Market Place apartment complex — also known as 175 Main Apartments — to conduct a welfare check requested by a third party.
Upon making contact, Jonathan Sentell produced a firearm and pointed it at two officers. Sentell then retreated into his apartment and refused to follow verbal commands.
Negotiators from the Cartersville Police Department worked for several hours to de-escalate the situation. After approximately six hours, Sentell was taken into custody by the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, with assistance from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Sentell has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.
The Cartersville Police Department extended its thanks to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, the Cartersville Fire Department, and Metro EMS for their roles in bringing the standoff to a peaceful conclusion.
