Woman Shot and Killed by Deputies in Bartow County After Firing Gun

A 50-year-old Cartersville woman, Carrie Hall, was shot and killed by Bartow County deputies and a Cartersville Police officer following an armed encounter on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
According to preliminary information, the incident began when Hall reportedly arrived at a Bartow County home and fired a gun. The homeowner, who knew Hall, identified her to responding deputies.
Around 8:40 p.m., deputies, with assistance from a Cartersville Police officer, located Hall’s vehicle at the intersection of SR 20/Canton Highway & Conference Center Drive in Cartersville and initiated a felony traffic stop. During the stop, Hall exited her vehicle armed with a gun and reportedly failed to comply with repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon. Deputies and officers then fired their guns, striking Hall.
Hall was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI’s independent investigation is ongoing, and once completed, the case file will be submitted to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.
