Teen Killed, Another Injured in Oakland City Shootout Between Juveniles

A 16-year-old male was shot and killed, and another teen was wounded during a shootout between juveniles in the Oakland City neighborhood on Wednesday night, May 28, 2025.
Atlanta Police Zone 4 officers were dispatched to 1191 Oakland Drive SW at approximately 8:10 p.m. in response to a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found a 16-year-old male unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
A second 16-year-old male was located nearby with a gunshot wound to his buttocks. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
Atlanta Homicide Commander Andrew Smith stated that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two groups of juveniles who reside along the street where the incident occurred. During the confrontation, one teen was shot, then produced a handgun and returned fire, fatally shooting the other.
The motive behind the altercation remains unknown. Gang investigators responded to the scene, though it has not yet been confirmed whether the incident was gang-related.
The investigation by the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit is ongoing.
