Fourteen Killed in Georgia During 2025 Memorial Day Holiday Travel Period

Fourteen people lost their lives in 18 fatal crashes across Georgia during the 78-hour Memorial Day holiday travel period, according to preliminary data released by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The holiday period began Friday, May 23, at 6:00 p.m. and concluded at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 26. GSP Troopers investigated four of the fatal crashes, resulting in four deaths, while local law enforcement agencies handled 12 additional crashes, resulting in 10 more fatalities.
Fatalities were reported by the Clayton County Police Department (3), Cobb County Police Department (2), Gwinnett County Police Department (2), South Fulton Police Department (1), Douglasville Police Department (1), and Richmond County Police Department (1). GSP Post 45 in Statesboro, Post 15 in Perry, and Post 23 in Brunswick each investigated one fatal crash.
In addition to fatal collisions, GSP Troopers investigated more than 390 traffic crashes across the state, leading to approximately 189 injuries. During the period, Troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) Officers conducted over 26,200 traffic stops. Nearly 410 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
Officials issued over 13,000 citations, more than 18,000 warnings, and wrote over 1,050 distracted driving citations, nearly 1,800 seatbelt citations, and more than 300 child restraint citations.
