Father and Daughter Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide at Brooklet City Park

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the deaths of a father and daughter following a suspected murder-suicide discovered at Brooklet City Park in Bulloch County.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers with the Brooklet Police Department and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an unresponsive child locked inside a vehicle.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers entered the vehicle and found 9-year-old Emily Grace Mayo deceased in the backseat with an apparent gunshot wound. In the front seat, officers found James Lee Mayo, 37, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was located on his lap.

The GBI has taken over the case at the request of the Brooklet Police Department. Both bodies will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler for autopsy.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
