Suspect Arrested for Murder in Downtown Atlanta Shooting

Atlanta Police have obtained arrest warrants for Melvin Bernard Marshall, 25, of Lithonia, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in downtown Atlanta. Marshall faces charges of Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Marshall was taken into custody on May 27, 2025, in Dekalb County on an unrelated incident and has since been booked into the Fulton County Jail. Authorities noted he also had other open warrants for Theft, Family Violence, and Probation Violation.
The charges stem from an incident on May 17, 2025. At approximately 6:14 a.m., officers responded to a report of a male shot at 236 Forsyth Street SW near the Garnett MARTA station. Upon arrival, officers located a 51-year-old male victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Medical personnel pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
