Dalton Police Investigating Three Deaths in Suspected Murder-Suicide Spanning Two Locations

The Dalton Police Department is investigating three related shooting deaths believed to be the result of a murder-suicide involving a man, his wife, and his girlfriend at two separate locations.

Police responded to an apartment on Murray Avenue shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, after coworkers reported that a woman had not been seen or heard from in several days. After gaining entry with the help of apartment staff, officers discovered the woman deceased inside the unit with a gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage later showed a man leaving the apartment around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21.

During the course of the investigation, police tracked the suspect’s vehicle to an apartment complex on Shadow Lane, where it was found parked. While officers awaited a search warrant in the early morning hours of Saturday, a man arrived and entered the apartment using a key. Police learned he was the father of the second female victim, who had also not been heard from for several days.

After discovering two bodies inside—his daughter and an unidentified male—the man contacted 911. Investigators determined that the man believed to be the suspect had shot and killed the second woman, believed to be his girlfriend, before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities believe the man first shot and killed his wife earlier in the week, then traveled to his girlfriend’s residence where he committed the second and third shootings.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending family notifications. The investigation remains ongoing.
