Savannah Police Investigate E. 53rd Street Shooting, One Arrested for Burglary

The Savannah Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday, May 19, in the 700 block of E. 53rd Street, leaving an adult male seriously injured.

At approximately 2:55 a.m., SPD officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival, they located an adult female victim who reported that someone had entered her residence and began shooting. While officers were at the scene, a report was received that an adult male suspect had arrived at Memorial Health University Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

During the initial investigation, officers stopped 19-year-old Jamile Pointer near the crime scene and found him to be in possession of a firearm. After being detained and questioned, Pointer was arrested and charged with burglary.
