Columbus Police Search for Suspect in Deadly Broadway Stabbing

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Michael Alston. Additionally, the suspect, Bobby Browder, was taken into custody in Phenix City, AL.

The Columbus Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect in a deadly stabbing that occurred this afternoon in the 1300 block of Broadway.
On May 20, 2025, at approximately 1:33 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of Broadway and 14th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Detectives have identified the suspect as 49-year-old Bobby Browder. Warrants are being issued for his arrest on charges of Murder and Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Crime.
Browder is believed to be homeless. Authorities note that his current appearance may differ from previous booking photos, as his hair is now longer.
Anyone who sees Browder or has information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately or contact Cpl. C. Alexander at 706-225-4263. Tipsters can remain anonymous. A reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.
