Man in Custody After Attempting to Start Fire Inside Target in Barrow County

At approximately 11:41 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, deputies with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the Target store located at 916 Loganville Highway in Bethlehem, GA, regarding a man attempting to start a fire inside the building.
Deputies arrived quickly and ensured that all customers and employees were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The suspect has been identified and taken into custody. The investigation into the motive and circumstances surrounding the attempted arson is ongoing.
Sheriff Jud Smith praised the swift actions of Target staff and responding deputies. “Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts, a potentially dangerous situation was contained without harm,” said Smith.
