Authorities are actively searching for a suspect, Jarmmal Cox, 30, following a series of incidents that began with a reported dispute and possible shots fired, escalated into a police pursuit and vehicle crash, and culminated in a SWAT standoff where Cox allegedly took a small infant hostage before escaping.

The Hogansville Police Department initially responded to the 500 block of Lawrence Street on Friday, May 16, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m. for a reported dispute with potential gunfire. Upon arrival, a male subject fled on foot. During their initial investigation, officers recovered narcotics and a firearm.

The situation reignited early Saturday morning, May 17, 2025, at around 1:50 a.m., when officers were dispatched back to the same location for another disturbance. Upon arrival, they encountered a male subject in a Jeep, later identified as Jarmmal Cox (DOB: 09/08/1994). Cox allegedly struck a Hogansville Police Department patrol vehicle and fled the scene, initiating a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit ended when Cox crashed near the intersection of Dickinson Street and Green Avenue. He then fled on foot. A perimeter was established, and a K9 unit from the LaGrange Police Department responded to assist in the search. The K9 team tracked Cox to a residence on Lawrence Street.

Based on credible information obtained at the scene, including reports that Cox may have armed himself and was holding a small infant hostage, the Hogansville Police Department requested assistance from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. Upon their arrival, Coweta County authorities further requested support from the Fulton County Police Department SWAT Team.

Officers reportedly took considerable time to prioritize the safety of the infant during the operation. Despite numerous attempts to negotiate a peaceful surrender, SWAT officers eventually made entry into the residence. The infant was located inside, safe and unharmed. However, authorities determined that Jarmmal Cox had managed to escape the home before the SWAT team entered.

Arrest warrants have now been issued for Jarmmal Cox for Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Fleeing and Eluding. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. Authorities also noted that Cox is wanted on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.

The Hogansville Police Department has expressed their sincere appreciation to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, LaGrange Police Department, Fulton County Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Troup County Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR) for their assistance in this ongoing investigation.
